My backpack is small, but...

Each day we're here I notice something else that I'd like to bring back to the States. Here's a quick list:

1. Small vehicles. Sure, we have some small cars in the States - Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit and the like - but the majority of people in our area drive minivans or SUVs.  The bigger is better philosophy definitely prevails when it comes to cars in the US of Automobile.  I saw the coolest truck yesterday afternoon - it's the truck of choice for contractors, electricians, handy people, couples who go camping, whatever.  It's sort of like the old Pacer from the 70s; car height with two seats, and an enclosed cab in the back for gear. The whole thing is not any longer than a full sized sedan - just perfect!

2. Cargo bikes. I love the cargo bike and we could all benefit from a bike that can carry our kids or our groceries, or both! There are even some that fit 8 kids - perfect for a big family or lots of dogs. Check out my favorite brand, Christiana of Denmark, here.

3. Better biking infrastructure. It's no fun riding your new cargo bike in the middle of the road - we need dedicated bike paths, especially in Florida.

4. Nestlé instant Latte in the packets. I'm embarassed to tell you that I can't get enough of this stuff, and you can't get it in the States.

5. Affordable, freshly-baked multi-grain or whole wheat bread. Here, people don't buy sliced bread, they buy fresh loaves of bread (if they're not baking their own) and slice it themselves. Sure, we have this bread, but it's usually in the specialty section of the grocery store or bakery, and it's usually $6. Here, it's 75 cents. Oh, and you also need brødposer to keep the bread fresh - special baggies shaped like a loaf of bread. No more jamming your bread into a square ziploc bag.
